New Zealand - 2019 - Annual Proof Coin Set - North Island Takahe
Mintage: 1000

The North Island takahē, known by Māori as the mōho, is an extinct rail first identified by bones found in the North Island of New Zealand in the mid 19th century. The European discovery the mōho is intertwined with that of the South Island takahē.

Highlights:

  • Stunning versions of New Zealand’s decimal currency coins
  • Worldwide mintage of 1,000 sets
  • Each coin is dated 2019
  • Includes colour-printed North Island Takahē coin, not available anywhere else.

Design:

The set features proof versions of New Zealand’s circulating currency coins. Each coin is specially dated 2019. Collectively the coins feature many well-known New Zealand symbols such as the Māori carved mask, known as a ‘kōruru’ on the 10-cent coin, and the HMS Endeavour, the ship of Captain James Cook, on the 50-cent coin.

As well as the proof versions of New Zealand’s circulating currency coins, the set also includes a colour-printed version of the 2019 New Zealand Annual Coin, North Island Takahē. This coin is only available as part of the 2019 New Zealand Proof Currency Set. This stunning 1oz silver proof coin was designed by New Zealand artist Dave Burke. The extinct North Island takahē is imagined here with the plumage of its South Island counterpart. The takahē is encircled by unique koru designs, layered to make the bird’s beak visually protrude from the flat surface.

The coin is also available separately, with a $5 face value and with a clean, silver proof finish.

There are only 1,000 of these collectable sets available and each one comes housed in a beautiful display box to keep them in pristine condition.
